• The number of Palestinians killed since October 7, 2023, has reached 72,117 with 171,801 injured.
• The Israeli government continues to open the Rafah crossing for limited traffic, allowing dozens of people in and out each day. The crossing was closed following the outbreak of the war with Iran. Gaza’s commercial crossings were also shut down for 4 days, causing a panic in the market where many items went missing form shelves and prices hiked up. On Wednesday, 237 trucks entered Gaza, dozens were for commercial purposes and the rest will be used for aid purposes.
• Five countries have agreed to contribute troops to Gaza as part of a newly proposed International Stabilization Force, according to an announcement made during a meeting of the Board of Peace convened by Donald Trump in Washington, DC.
The countries planning to send troops are Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo and Albania. Meanwhile, Egypt and Jordan will assist the mission by providing training for Palestinian police forces.
The stabilization force will be commanded by US Army General Jasper Jeffers, who was appointed by Trump’s advisory board to oversee the future security mission in Gaza.
Indonesia to take deputy leadership role
General Jeffers said that Indonesia has agreed to assume the position of deputy commander within the multinational force.
President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia is prepared to deploy as many as 8,000 personnel. He said the country hopes to help ensure that efforts to establish peace in Gaza Strip succeed, noting that at least 72,000 Palestinians have been killed since the beginning of Israel’s military campaign.
Indonesia was among the earliest nations to pledge troops to the initiative. Officials in Jakarta emphasized that their participation will primarily focus on humanitarian responsibilities.
