Weekly summary of the War on Gaza, January 23, 2026

Daily Death Tolls:
• On January 17, 2026, one Palestinian was killed by Israeli fire and 6 others were injured.
• On January 19, 2026, the bodies of two Palestinians arrived at Gaza’s hospital, one was killed recently and another was uncovered from under the rubble, 12 others were injured.
• On January 20, 2026, one Palestinian was killed by Israeli fire and 7 others were injured.
• On January 21, 2026, 11 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire, and 6 others were injured by Israeli fire due to a number of Israeli airstrikes in Gaza. Three of them were journalists working for the Egyptian Committee for the Relief of Gaza. They were operating a drone to get some footage to the west of Gaza when the Israeli military targeted them.
• Nine Palestinians died of cold as viruses continue to hit Gaza and its people. An unknown virus, with flu-like symptoms, have spread in Gaza, causing thousands of infections. Due to the limited capacity of the health system and testing, the virus has not been identified yet. Eight-year old Mariam Kullab lost her life because of the virus and her aunt recounted, "Two years of war didn't kill her, a virus did."
Total Death Tolls:
• Since the ceasefire agreement went into effect in Gaza on October 11, 2025, 477 Palestinians have been killed, 1301 have been injured, and 713 bodies have been uncovered from under the rubble of their homes.
• The number of Palestinians killed since October 7, 2023, has reached 71,562 with 171,372 injured.
• After almost 100 days of ceasefire in Gaza, 91.9% of people killed were civilians.
• Ali Shaat, the head of the committee that will run Gaza, following Trump's signing of the Peace Council in Davos, said the Rafah Crossing will open next week. However, the Israeli military said they have no new instructions so far from the political level.
• The Israeli military continues to demolish homes and neighborhoods east of the Yellow Line in Gaza. Several Palestinians were killed as they were spotted inside the Yellow Line or as they approached it. The Israeli military treats the Yellow Line as the new border of the Gaza Strip and Palestinians are not allowed to be there. The Israeli military keeps expanding the Yellow Line and it occupies 63% of the Gaza Strip.
