We were thrilled to receive 41 submissions to our Gaza Unlocked essay contest "My Life Under Blockade." The essays were a powerful tribute to the bright and talented youth in Gaza -- we had a difficult time selecting three winners due to so many well written and creative essays. Thanks to our judges in Gaza and the US, we have selected the following winners:
- Rahaf Elhallaq, for her essay "The Party"
- Nadya Faisal Siyam, for her essay "30 Minutes... A Thousand Times Over"
- Tarneem Hassan Mahmoud Hammad, for her essay "Dear Blockade"
In Chicago at a benefit organized by the American Friends Service Committee, excerpts from the three essays were read to an appreciative audience.
We will be posting the essays on future Gaza Unlocked blog posts. Until then, enjoy these excerpts read at an event in Chicago on November 15, 2018.
Again, congratulations to all the participants!
